Karen Thompson

A self-taught artist with a passion for portraits people and pets, Thompson enjoys painting miners, and has been taken into the heart of mining communities countrywide.

As well as exhibiting at the Bob Abley Gallery, Thompson’s work can also be viewed at No. 42 Gallery in Bishop Auckland and she’s currently re-creating a miner’s banner for her village, Great Lumley, as the original was destroyed in 1929.

Working primarily in pastel, each portrait is an original, inspired by favourite photographs. Thompson says she feels honoured to be trusted with personal memories to create art that may be treasured for generations.

She also paints watercolour flowers and scenes, and illustrated children’s book “The Magic T-Shirt” by Adam Bushnel.
