Environment

As well as helping the town’s residents, visitors, businesses and organisations thrive, Spennymoor Town Council is also dedicated to improving the environment.

A grassy field

Creating green space and outdoor activities is vital to enhancing the town’s physical and mental wellbeing. It’s also important to provide allotments, where people can develop their green fingered skills and spend productive time outdoors.

The Town Council oversees extensive planting displays and installs planter tubs and hanging baskets across the town and our villages, for the enjoyment of residents. (Visit our Grants page to learn more about our Partnership Programme).

We also ensure that our area has some of the finest and best attended cemeteries in the county, with our environmental team working around the year to maintain the final resting place of so many townspeople.

Allotments

Spennymoor Town Council understands the importance of providing allotments.

As a means of recreation and relaxation, and a healthy pastime for its residents, allotments are second to none.

We have recently developed a new Allotment Tenancy Agreement setting out the terms and conditions in accepting a tenancy, and lays out the obligations of both parties.

The Council provides administrative support to Allotment Committees, and maintains fencing and roadways of our allotments, offering security and providing water to Council sites.

Our allotment sites

Spennymoor communities enjoy 19 allotment sites, with over 700 allotments to choose from.
