I’m a self-taught artist with a passion for portraits of adults, children, and family pets. I especially enjoy painting miners and have recently become involved in many mining communities countrywide, where they’ve taken me into their hearts and are very appreciative of my work. My art evokes memories of their time down the mines and of the lifelong friendships made.
My mining work can be viewed in Spennymoor Town Hall – the Bob Abley Gallery and at No. 42 Gallery in Bishop Auckland. I’m currently re-creating a miner’s banner for Great Lumley, my local village, as the original was destroyed in 1929.
I primarily work in pastel, as they are odourless and can be manipulated with great ease and speed. Each portraits is an original, inspired by favourite photographs. I feel honoured to be trusted with personal memories in order to create a piece of art that may be treasured for generations to come.
I also enjoy painting in watercolour, flowers and scenes, and I’m also the illustrator for a children’s book – The Magic T-Shirt by Adam Bushnel which is to be published this year.
