School Council

Spennymoor Town Council was delighted to welcome teachers and students from North Park Primary School to the Council Chamber.

The youngsters attended a mock Council meeting in the Town Hall, led by the Town Mayor, Cllr Ian Geldard, with assistance from the Town Clerk, Sam Shippen, and some fellow Councillors.

The event was designed to provide an insight into the role of the Town Council, its duties, responsibilities and how it operates. Items up for debate on the fabricated agenda included a planning application and a new children’s play area.

Cllr Geldard said: “It was lovely welcoming the children into the Council Chamber today and to be able to give an insight into the work of the Town Council.

“They were really enthusiastic and asked some excellent questions. I just hope they enjoyed it as much as we did!”.
