Everyone feels “At Home” at Mayoress’ fundraiser

Mayoress Sadie Hartnett welcomed residents and families to Spennymoor Town Hall …all in the name of a good cause.

It may have been one of new Town Mayor, Cllr Ian Geldard’s first civic events, but it was the Mayoress who played host to those generously donating time and money to raise funds for this year’s Mayor’s Charity Appeal in aid of the Special Care Baby Units at Durham and Darlington, Spennymoor’s Learning Library, and Moors in the Community.

Proceeds from a tombola and a raffle, together with generous donations made on the day, will go towards supporting families with premature babies, those with learning difficulties, suffering from social isolation or the cost of living, and our town’s veterans through some great partnership projects planned between the Mayor’s chosen causes.

The Mayoress said: “I’d like to thank everyone who came along to support this fantastic event. It was great to see everyone and raise money for some really worthy charities. However, this is just one of the first events we have planned over the next year, as Ian and I are determined to do all we can to bring Spennymoor’s communities together as often as possible.”

Cllr Geldard said: “The event is a great way to meet and catch-up with people from the town, with everyone having fun in a relaxed atmosphere. Spennymoor’s greatest asset is its people and I absolutely love every opportunity to share time and a laugh with them.”
