Nominations To Open For May 2021 Elections

Candidates wishing to stand in County Durham elections on Thursday 6 May 2021 can submit their nomination papers from Friday 26 March, following the publication of the notice of election today.

Prospective candidates wishing to stand as either a county councillor, a parish or town councillor or for the role of Police and Crime Commissioner for Durham and Darlington will be able to formally submit their nomination papers between 10am and 4pm on any working day between Friday 26 March 2021 and Thursday 8 April, excluding bank holidays.

Nomination papers must be hand delivered to County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UL by no later than 4pm on Thursday 8 April.

Prospective candidates or agents may book an appointment to submit a nomination paper by contacting the Electoral Services team on 03000 261212 or by emailing electoralservices@durham.gov.uk

Candidates should remember when delivering their nomination papers to follow current coronavirus government advice of Hands, Face, Space.

Also on Thursday 6 May, neighbourhood planning referendums will take place for the following areas:

  • Durham City
  • Lanchester
  • Oakenshaw.

The referendum for each plan will be conducted in accordance with procedures similar to those used at local government elections and ask whether voters want Durham County Council to use the neighbourhood plan to help decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area.
