The achievements and hard work of Spennymoor’s exceptional young people will be recognised as a much-loved annual awards ceremony makes a welcome return.

Spennymoor Town Council’s Young People’s Awards 2023 will take place on Friday 24th March, celebrating the amazing achievements of incredible young people in the town…and nominations are needed!

The awards, in Spennymoor’s Town Hall, honour exceptional young people across several categories and are now open for nominations.

Having been delayed for two years due to the pandemic, the awards promise a fantastic evening of pride, laughter and celebration of those making a positive impact on communities.

Spennymoor Town Council is asking adults, young leaders, and volunteers to nominate someone who should be recognised for their hard work, exceptional talent or caring efforts.

Spennymoor Town Mayor, Cllr Dean Ranyard, said: “Spennymoor is blessed with a small army of young people doing incredible things – and the Town Council takes great pleasure in recognising and celebrating their efforts.

“Whether that person has been caring for others, giving up time to help people, excelling in sport, music or other pastime…anything that deserves recognition, we want to hear about it!”

Awards cover a range of categories including Art, Music and Dance Award, Sports, Young People’s Choice (celebrating someone encouraging young people to contribute to their community), Community Champion, and School Award for a pupil demonstrating the seven Olympic/Paralympic values of Respect, Friendship, Excellence, Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality.

Additionally, the Extra Special Achievement and Recognition Award celebrates a young person or people who have gone further than most to accomplish their dreams, helped others or even accomplished something in amazing circumstances.

Cllr Ranyard, added: “After what has been a difficult few years, now is a great time to vote for the friends, pupils and neighbours who have inspired you.

“I am proud of the work that has been done and continues to be achieved by young people in Spennymoor. The Awards show how important it is to reward those who have had such a positive impact on our community.”

Nominations for the awards can be made using the Town Council nomination form, available at: https://spennymoor-tc.gov.uk/young-people-awards

The closing date for nominations is noon on Friday 17th February.
