Spennymoor Town Council Facilities & Recreation Committee Order of Business - Meeting to be held July 14th 2026
Cllr McAloon has served the town and surrounding communities as a councillor for 13 years and council leader for the past year. He accepted his latest role from outgoing Mayor Cllr Liz Maddison.
The appointment was confirmed at the Annual Meeting of Spennymoor Town Council, on May 26, at which Cllr Maddison, presented her chosen charities – Spennymoor Town Band and Spennymoor Youth Band – with a cheque for over £11,300, which was fundraised throughout her year in office.
Cllr McAloon said: “Representing and championing the communities of Spennymoor has always been an honour and source of great pride – being named Mayor is the icing on the cake and I’m very much looking forward to the year ahead.
“I’d also like to recognise the hard work of Cllr Maddison who has represented the town with distinction over her period as Mayor. The amount raised for her chosen charities is a testament to her efforts over the last 12 months.”
Cllr McAloon has selected Spennymoor Boxing Academy as his nominated charity and Cllr Heather Waugh has been elected Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Maddison said: “What a fantastic Mayoral year! It has been an honour and privilege to represent our town and amazing communities and it’s a source of great pride that I have had the opportunity to promote Spennymoor, meet some fascinating people and celebrate our incredible heritage. I have loved it all!
“I’d like to congratulate Cllr McAloon on his election and hope he enjoys the role as much as I did.”
The Annual Meeting is an important occasion in the civic calendar, celebrating the achievements of the past year while looking ahead to the year to come under the new mayoralty.
