Councillor Billy McAloon has taken up the chains of office to become Spennymoor Town Mayor, making it a hattrick of roles for him on the Town Council.
The Council has partnered with Go Well Trails to pilot a series of interactive trails in Jubilee Park, encouraging residents and visitors to get active while discovering more about the town’s culture and community.
From 26 April to 27 June 2026, participants can use the Go Well Trails app as a guide around Jubilee Park, getting clues via QR codes placed at strategic co-ordinates. Users can answer questions, learn new facts and earn points as they explore the area.
Accessible for all ages, the Go Well Trails cover a range of subjects, but focus mainly on topics around Spennymoor’s history and heritage, art and culture, science and sport.
The initiative is a Town Council partnership project to enhance civic pride, celebrate local identity and encourage wellbeing.
Councillor Billy McAloon, Leader of Spennymoor Town Council, said: “Spennymoor has a proud history and a strong sense of community and we’re always looking at new ways to celebrate that while encouraging people to make the most of our fantastic public spaces.
“These trails are a brilliant way of bringing people together, learning about where we live, exercising and generally just a fun pastime for all age groups. You might discover something new about the town, enjoy time with family or have a reason to get out and about – we hope residents will embrace the experience.
“The Town Council is committed to investing in projects that create pride in our communities and ensure people learn about, and feel connected to, the place they call home.”
Participants need a smartphone or tablet and an email address to register and take part.
