Free Creative Community Workshops Coming to Spennymoor This February

Spennymoor Town Council is pleased to announce a series of free Creative Community Workshops taking place throughout February in the Maker Space at the Bob Abley Gallery, Spennymoor Town Hall.

These relaxed and welcoming Friday sessions invite participants to explore and celebrate the women — past and present — who have shaped communities across the North East. Through shared creativity and conversation, attendees will help create a collaborative fabric artwork that will form part of the upcoming exhibition Echoes of Her North.

Celebrating Stories Through Creativity

Each workshop will encourage participants to reflect on the strength, heritage, and experiences of inspirational women, transforming these ideas into textile-based artworks. No previous artistic experience is required, and all materials will be provided.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to a word wall celebrating women who inspire them
  • Experiment with textile techniques such as fabric collage, simple stitching, embroidery, fabric painting, and lino printing
  • Create a personalised fabric square representing a chosen inspirational woman
  • Take part in building a large-scale community banner and sculptural installation that will be displayed in the Bob Abley Gallery*
  • Share stories, traditions, and experiences in a supportive, creative environment
