Spennymoor Town Council Facilities & Recreation Committee Order of Business - Meeting to be held July 14th 2026
The Council’s Community Chest Fund helped deliver a range of events and initiatives across the town and surrounding villages, including parties, pantomime visits, festive meals, theatre trips and Santa visits. The scheme is part of the council’s continued commitment to delivering for residents and supporting community spirit during the festive period.
Supported projects included Christmas parties at St Paul’s Centre, Friends of The Oaks, and Kirk Merrington Community Centre; pantomime performances from Spennymoor Stage & Song and Spennymoor Youth Theatre; festive lunches for Byers Green Community Association; and Christmas activities delivered by King Street, North Park, Rosa Street, St Charles Primary and Whitworth Park Academy schools.
Spennymoor Youth & Community Association delivered doorstep Santa visits, Tudhoe Community Centre hosted an event, Spennymoor Boxing Club organised a social trip and Middlestone Moor FC to offer activities for young people. Support was also awarded to The Place to Be, Learning a New Way, Springmoor Grange School, 1st Spennymoor St Paul’s Guides and St Paul’s PCC.
Cllr Billy McAloon, Leader of Spennymoor Town Council, said: “Christmas is a joyous time, but can also be a challenge for many people – something to celebrate can sometimes be something to just get though for some people, which is why this funding is so important. Grants help organisations deliver meaningful activities that bring people together, reduce isolation and ensure everyone has the chance to enjoy the festive season. I’m proud the Town Council can support so many fantastic groups who do so much for people.”
Town Mayor, Cllr Liz Maddison, added: “The projects supported this year really shows the strength, compassion and community spirit across our town and its communities. From school celebrations and pantomimes to community meals and visits for those who can’t get out to socialise, this funding spreads joy, kindness and connection at Christmas.
“The Council supplies the funds, but it’s important to recognise and thank all the volunteers and organisations involved in delivering these projects for the difference they make.”
The Christmas Community Chest Fund forms part of Spennymoor Town Council’s program of investment, supporting initiatives that enhance quality of life and strengthen communities throughout the year.
