Town Council thanks residents for hundreds of gifts donated in annual Toy Appeal

SPENNYMOOR Town Council has praised the “remarkable kindness and Christmas spirit” of residents after hundreds of gifts were donated to the annual Toy Appeal.

This year’s community toy collection saw a wealth of presents dropped off by big-hearted locals, that will all go under the trees for children and young people who might otherwise have gone without this festive season.

The Town Council supported Rosa Street Trinity Methodist Church, whih arranged four drop-off points – at Trinity and Tudhoe Methodist Churches, Spennymoor Town Hall and at LED Supply and Fit in Newton Aycliffe – inviting residents to leave new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to families in need…and Council leaders described the donation effort as “extraordinary.”

Donated gifts included board games, dolls, electronics, books, action figures, craft sets, puzzles, and many other wonderful surprises, all of which will be delivered to local youngsters before Christmas Day.

The Town Council also donated just under £1,000 to the appeal, which council employees used to buy toys from town shops. The toys were delivered to the church last Thursday.

Cllr Liz Maddison, Spennymoor Town Mayor, said: “The generosity of Spennymoor’s communities has been truly heartwarming. To see so many people give so much – especially during a time when many households are feeling the pinch – is nothing short of inspiring.

“These gifts will make a real difference to local children, bringing joy and hope on Christmas morning. My sincere thanks go to everyone who donated. You have shown the very best of our town’s Christmas spirit.”

Spennymoor Town Council Leader, Cllr Billy McAloon, sad: “Yet again, our amazing residents have gone above and beyond. The sheer volume of gifts and thought that has gone into them reflects the kindness that makes this town such a special place.

“I am so proud of our community. Thank you to everyone who took the time to donate and support families who need a little extra help this festive season. We wish all our residents a very merry Christmas and a happy, peaceful New Year.”

The councillors also thanked volunteers, staff, and community partners who helped coordinate the collection and four drop-off locations, and for helping ensure every toy reaches a child who needs it.
