Spennymoor Town Council Facilities & Recreation Committee Order of Business - Meeting to be held July 14th 2026
In a show of support for bereaved families, Spennymoor Town Hall will light up this week as part of Baby Loss Awareness Week (9 to 15 October).
The Town Council will bathe the building in pink and blue light in a gesture to highlight the devastating issue and show support for those impacted by the death of a child.
The move was at the request of Cllr Dean Ranyard, following a powerful presentation by the baby loss charity Sands, at the Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) Conference. He said the talk drove home the importance of awareness, support, and remembrance for families affected by the loss of a baby during pregnancy, at birth, or soon after.
By joining the national “Light Up Pink and Blue” campaign, Spennymoor Town Council aims to stand in solidarity with residents who have experienced baby loss, and to raise awareness of the help and support available.
Cllr Ranyard said: “Lighting up the Town Hall is a simple but meaningful way of showing compassion and support to families across our communities who have experienced the unimaginable pain of losing a baby.
“Baby Loss Awareness Week encourages conversation, remembrance and connection – the simple and impactful act of lighting up our Town Hall, will hopefully help break the silence and any stigma around the issue and show those affected that they are by no means alone.”
Baby Loss Awareness Week is marked nationally by the lighting up of public buildings, landmarks and homes in pink and blue, and by events organised by charities and community groups across the UK.
