Spennymoor came to a halt at the weekend as the town marked Armistice Day and Remembrance Services.
Reverend Matt Tarling conducted the service at the Town Hall on Sunday with Father John Livesley handling proceedings at the War Memorial. Once again, Parade Marshall Peter Gray oversaw the order and timing of the event impeccably, with the Last Post, Reveille and National Anthem played beautifully by a Spennymoor Town Band.
On an emotional and respectful autumnal morning, the Town Band performed a number of moving pieces during both services, beautifully accompanied by piper, Arthur Middleton, who played a traditional lament at the service at the war memorial.
Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Dame Maura Regan OBE attended the event and heard pupils from Springmoor Grange School, North Park Primary School, St Charles Catholic Primary School and Rosa Street Primary School read poems to assembled crowds.
Wreaths were laid by representatives from the armed forces, emergency services, civic dignitaries, political parties, charities and community organisations, schools, sports clubs, businesses and members of the public.
