The band set off on Friday lunchtime for Cheltenham to represent the North of England at the National Brass Band Finals of Great Britain, held on Saturday.
A profile of each competing band has been posted on the competition website, and can be viewed here: https://kapitol.co.uk/finals/qualifiers/section-3/1086/spennymoor-town – the site will be viewed by thousands of people across the world in the coming week.
Hugh Stephenson, Spennymoor Town Band President, said: “To compete is a real honour and we relish the challenge of going up against the cream of the crop, real UK brass band elite.
“This is the third time we have managed to qualify for the National Finals and I’d really like to thank the Town Council for its ongoing support, which makes entering competitions like this possible.”
The Town Band, which was originally formed in the 19th century, warmed up for the nationals by performing a National Test piece showcase event in Spennymoor Town Hall, which proved a great success.
Spennymoor Town Council Clerk, Ian Morris, said: “Spennymoor Town Band is a local icon – it’s what makes Spennymoor, Spennymoor and has provided the soundtrack to so many events in the town for over a century.
“As a Town Council, we are so proud to support the players in everything they do. They are super talented, incredibly committed and sound absolutely amazing – they are genuinely great ambassadors for our community.”
Please join us at the Town Council in wishing Spennymoor Town Band the best of luck in the National Brass Band Finals of Great Britain this Saturday.
